Thanksgiving in the US
One of the most vibrant and colorful festivals in the USA, Thanksgiving Day is a traditional North American holiday that is celebrated to mark the end of the harvest season and the official beginning of the Christmas season. Historically, the Thanksgiving celebrations dates back to 1621, when the legendary pilgrims arrived in Massachusetts, after the arduous sea journey of 66 days. It is believed that theses pilgrims learned to grow corn, beans and pumpkins from the Indians. In the autumn of 1621, they held a grand celebration where 90 people including Indians were invited. This communal dinner is popularly known as “The first thanksgiving feast”. In the United States, the holiday is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November. In Canada, where the harvest generally ends earlier in the year, the holiday is celebrated on the second Monday of October.
